One Saree, Three Occasions: Easy Ways to Style It

Woman wearing a copper silk saree

The easiest way to get more from a saree is to change what goes around it. Blouse, jewellery and hair do most of the work, so one well-chosen drape can carry you through very different days.

Day function: light and easy

  • Pair it with a simple elbow-sleeve blouse in a matching or neutral shade.
  • Keep jewellery minimal: small studs and a thin bangle or watch.
  • A low bun or a loose braid keeps the look fresh through a long day.

Festive evening: add shine

  • Switch to a contrast or embroidered blouse to lift the whole look.
  • Let one statement piece lead, such as a gold-plated choker, and keep earrings smaller so they don't compete.
  • Pin the pallu neatly in pleats for a polished finish.

Wedding guest: go traditional

  • Layer a choker with a longer necklace for depth.
  • Add bangles in sets on both wrists and a small maang tikka if the occasion suits it.
  • Finish with a structured bun and flowers for a classic touch.

Look after it between wears

Air the saree after each wear, then fold it in muslin and refold it along different lines every few months so the creases don't set. Silk and zari work are best dry-cleaned.
